Acupuncture is a traditional Asian medical technique for treating pain and many other chronic medical conditions. It is a complementary therapy best used in combination with other medical care.
The acupuncture practitioner inserts very thin, sterile, single-use needles at specific points along the body. Many people find the treatments surprisingly relaxing. According to traditional Asian medical theory, acupuncture balances the flow of energy in the body to enhance health. All in all, it is used to help you live your healthiest life.
Absolutely! Acupuncture practitioners undergo years of training in Chinese medicine and are licensed by the MA Board of Registration in Medicine. The needles are medical devices regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. We also have an incredible acupuncturist at CHC, Nancy Grossman.
Many health insurance companies, including most MassHealth plans (except MassHealth Limited) now cover acupuncture services for treating pain. Some insurers cover acupunture treatments for other chronic medical conditions.
If you have an insurance plan, please call your insurance company or consult your Summary of Benefits to see whether acupuncture is covered, for what conditions, whether a deductible applies, and whether you have a copayment. A physician referral may be needed.
If your insurance does not include an acupuncture benefit, self-pay fees are $60.00 for the initial visit and $45.00 for each following visit.
