Beat the heat, know the signs and stay safe during the New England’s first heat wave.

As New England heads into its first heat wave of the season it's important to know the first heat wave is often the most dangerous because many people aren't yet acclimated to the high temperatures and that can put lives at risk, especially children, outdoor workers and people with chronic health conditions. Whether you're caring for yourself, a loved one or a member of our community, quick recognition and action can prevent serious illness or save a life.

Heat related illnesses can come on quickly, but it is preventable.

Check in on your neighbors, especially the elderly and those without air conditioning, drink water regularly, wear light clothing and take breaks in the shade or indoors.

Please take the time to read the below PDF from Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Let's keep each other safe and healthy this summer!
