In honor of Pediatric Dental Health Month, I wanted to highlight the importance of strong healthy smiles for our children and to celebrate the partnerships that make our community based dental services and care possible.

At Community Health Connections (CHC) we believe that pediatric dental care matters because good oral health is essential to a child's overall well-being. Preventative dental care helps:

  • prevent cavities and tooth decay
  • avoid pain and infection
  • speak clearly and chew properly
  • build confidence with a healthy smile
  • stay fake focused in school without dental discomfort
  • establishing early habits that will last into adulthood

Tooth decay remains one of the most common chronic conditions in children, but it's also one of the most preventable. Regular dental visits, exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants and early restorative care can make all the difference.

Parents & Caregivers: leading by example, we serve as our child's first role models and that means brushing twice a day, flossing daily, limiting sugary drinks and snacks and keeping up with regular dental appointments. When children see adults prioritizing their own oral health, they're more likely to do the same.

In addition to offering comprehensive adult & pediatric dental care at all our health centers, CHC also offers a school based mobile dental programs, with over 25 contracted local schools. Our Caring For Kids Mobile School-based Dental Program visit schools throughout the year, delivering care right at their school. CHCFHC | Caring-for-Kids)

Our Caring for Kids team includes dentists, hygienists and dental assistants. This compassionate and dedicated team provides dental education, exams, cleanings preventative treatments and light restorative services in the schools. By meeting children where they're at, we help reduce missed school days and can prevent small problems from becoming bigger ones. This program ensures that every child has access to high quality dental care.

Finally, an important message that isn't discussed enough is how to access affordable dental care for yourself and your children.

Did you know, MassHealth, Health SafetyNet and CHIP offer dental coverage options. It can be a confusing situation to navigate, and that’s why we have Patient Services Representatives, available for appointments at each of our health centers. The Patient Services team can help families and caregivers navigate coverage and help also help you apply for CHC Sliding Fee Discount Program, which is based on income and family size.
